Shrewsbury & District Dog Training & Agility Club

Training Classes.

We aim to provide training for all levels of agility from raw beginners to high competition standard in a friendly and enjoyable environment. Agility is a fun sport for both dogs and handlers, we at Shrewsbury aim to keep it that way.

Naturally the safety of our dogs is always paramount so before beginning training we do insist that your dog is at least 10 months old, has been properly vaccinated (we will need to see your certificate) and is fit. It is also essential that your dog is capable of basic obedience - sit, down, stay, wait and recall will suffice.

Please note that we are purely an agility training club and do not hold obedience or puppy socialisation classes.

Your dog does not have to be a border collie or working sheepdog either. Agility caters for all dogs with different classes for dog sizes. Even in the large size classes non-collie handlers compete successfully and competitively with other breeds of dog. Non-pedigree dogs are allowed to compete in agility so "Scruff" from your local rescue centre is very welcome here - in fact we already have a number of rescue dogs competing successfully and thoroughly enjoying training. However to enter "open" Kennel Club Rules competitions all dogs have to be registered - how to do this will be explained to you when your dog (and you) are ready for competition.

Currently we hold training sessions twice a week. Outdoor sessions are held at the West Midlands Showground in Shrewsbury on Saturday mornings during the winter and Monday evenings during the summer. Indoor all-weather sessions are held at Walford College near Baschurch on Thursday evenings throughout the year, however places are limited due to time and space and a waiting list exists.

For times and all details of training please email or contact Terri.

Occasionally training at the West Midlands Showground is not possible due to other events being held there or weather conditions. We don't mind training in the rain but ground conditions sometimes makes this dangerous for the dogs and handlers. Often this involves a last minute decision but whenever possible cancellations will be posted on the opening page of this website in advance.

Training for the Winter months will move to Saturday Mornings commencing Saturday 20th October. All classes will now be divided into stages according to progression, Would those in the early classes please arrive early to put out equipment. Walford training times are unchanged, please arrive at 6.45pm for the hard part.
